Overview

Daydream Fantasy is a 2D puzzle meta-game with mechanics that require an external device, Leap Motion, for gesture recognition. Players will enter the dream world of an old computer in the form of a pair of hands and face a series of witty and treacherous puzzle challenges.

Inspiration

The inspiration for Daydream Fantasy comes from the concept of the “inner child,” which is a psychological concept, often considered a semi-independent subpersonality and a part of the self. The process of self-exploration often involves a journey of self-fragmentation and self-compassion. The concept of the inner child has deeply influenced me, prompting me to contemplate how to transform the sense of fragmentation and compassion I experience into a gaming experience.

Starting from the establishment of communication, I want a game that features a core character beyond the player’s control. Progression in the game requires the participation of both the in-game character and the player. This implies that players will participate in the game world as who they are, rather than through an avatar. Therefore, I assigned a personality to the device used by players – a lonely and somewhat neurotic old computer. Utilizing gesture recognition devices, players are endowed with the ability to “reach into the screen,” and thus, the game was born.

Implementing single-hand gesture recognition using Leap Motion. Unity developers can easily define hand models and personalize gestures by distinguishing between fingers through the use of Leap Motion’s pre-packaged header files.
